What better way to start this sew along by talking about the first step in any sewing project: the pattern. This step is really important because it will allow you to know what materials and notions you need to gather.

Sewing a bra can be scary. I know a lot of people who are afraid to try because they’re intimidated by elastics, underwires, finding the right size, wasting away fabrics and notions, etc. It’s funny because, personally, I find it more difficult to sew a coat or a pair of jeans than sewing a bra. That’s the reason why I’ll try with this series of blog posts to divide it into sizeable chunks that will make the whole process less scary for you. And hopefully, in the end, you’ll give it a go!

A few weeks ago, Milena from Eclipse lingerie studio launched a book about lingerie sewing. It’s very complete and contains everything you need to sew yourself a full lingerie wardrobe, from a simple triangle bralette to high-waisted panties, including a sports bra and an underwired bra. And on top of it all (as if it wasn’t already enough), the pictures are great, far from the “traditional” lingerie pictures, but with real people’s bodies (and it feels good). To be honest, I didn’t hesitate very long to decide which model I was going to start with… The underwire bra of course! And I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to document my fitting process a bit and share my journey and iterations with you.

For once on this blog, we are going to talk about a home project ! I discovered quilting not long ago. In my head, quilting was kind of old-fashioned. Quilts were the kind of items you would find in an old family house, dusty, stained and made with weird scraps of flowery fabrics and bedsheets… But I discovered that there was really something else to it, and you could whip up some gorgeous, modern quilts! With really strong graphic vibes, and that’s what I went for!

I looooove sewing bras. (You don’t say?!) I know, it’s no secret. But I wish I could say the same about panties… but I find it boring. But I still need panties in my life (I know I could live without them, I know some people do)(but that’s not the life I want to live)(I’m putting an end to that debate now). And I love lingerie sets. So I’ve decided to sew a pair of panties each time I sew a bra. And I’m forbidding myself from wearing the bra until the undies are sewn (because I’m lazy and I would otherwise begin wearing the bra and would never sew the matching undies). It may seem a bit extreme but it works for me.

I’ve always looked at Pauline Alice patterns from afar, I don’t really know why… I find them all beautiful and detailed, but I don’t know, I’ve never really pictured myself in them. Not my style I guess. Quart was no different from the others in my heart, I thought it was nice, but didn’t really lie the pleated side panels. But when I saw Pauline’s hack to turn it into a perfecto, I didn’t even think and I went for it! I looooove perfectos. If I had enough room (and an unlimited bank account, ahem) I could have dozens and dozens of perfectos. It’s a shape I really like, and that I consider a basic in my wardrobe. I liked the idea to have a crossover between a coat and a perfecto. And besides, I needed a short coat.

At first, I was not planning to make a set, but I had leftover lace, and I loved the bra so much I though it would be a shame to leave it alone and not give it matching panties.

Today we’ll talk about lingerie sewing. If you’d have asked me a few back if I planned on sewing lingerie one day, I would have laughed soooo hard! … And yet!

I don’t know if it’s the same for you, but going lingerie shopping has always been a huge pain for me. I am (fortunately or unfortunately, I don’t know) considered as being part of the “bigger sizes”. And as such, I really struggle to find anything that fits AND that I like.

I absolutely love the République du chiffon patterns. I love the style they go for, with a vintage feel to it. And Diego is no exception! But I know that even if I love all of them, there are some of these that I wouldn’t be able to pull off or wouldn’t fit me or match what I actually wear. But I can assure you that Diego gets its fair share of wear!

As I told you on my Cielo article, I fell for Pietra, from Closet Core’s Rome collection, as soon as I laid eyes on it.

I didn’t buy it right away, I let it sit in my mind (and I had other things on my to-make list). But after a few months, I still liked it a lot, so I gave in, and bought the paper version at Metermeter (I don’t like assembling PDF for pants… So many pieces, so little time…)

A looooong time ago (in a galaxy far, far away), the only ting I was wearing was tight slim jeans. And low waisted jeans… (*shivers*) I don’t want to talk further more about these dark ages, now that I discovered high-waisted pants. And there is nothing else that I would rather wear.

Where it began

On paper, high-waisted pants are a winner: it’s comfy, it’s got plenty of wiggle room, it shields you from the summer sun and keeps you cool. It’s everything you want to wear in the summer when you don’t wear skirts or dresses (hello, fellow humans with thick thighs, I too associate summer + skirts to skin irritation) but still want that roomy, flowy fabric to keep you cool.

I’m back today to talk about this wardrobe staple: the white cropped top.

How it began

Noooo, don’t leave! Well, I know that cropped tops may remind some of you of the dark ages of the 90s.

And I used to be one of those persons. I always thought it didn’t suit me, as I was too short, not thin enough (what beauty standards can make you think… sighs). But as a matter of fact, now as I started to wear more and more high-waisted pants and shorts and skirts, I began tucking my tees in.
